Metrolinx Updates

Cooksville – General Notes and Information

​​

Crews will continue construction activities along Hurontario Street between Harborn Road and Burnhamthorpe Road. Current work includes track installation and maintenance, electrical and telecommunications infrastructure work, roadwork, and the energization of Traction Power Substations (TPSS), which will provide power to future LRT vehicles.

​

To support project timelines and accommodate factors such as reduced traffic volumes and weather-related considerations, some activities may occur overnight and on weekends.

Night Shift Operations 
July 12 to July 17, 2026
9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

​​

  • Work will take place during overnight shifts and will primarily involve material deliveries, rail handling, unloading activities, and track installation support within the established work zone. These activities will not require a 1+1 traffic configuration. Crews will alternate lane closures as needed, and when either northbound Lane 1 or southbound Lane 1 is not required for construction activities, it will be reopened to facilitate traffic flow.

  • As part of ongoing guideway works, the southbound left turn from Hurontario Street to King Street will be temporarily restricted for approximately three weeks. Please note that the southbound left turn at Dundas Street has now reopened to traffic.

Day Shift Operations
Friday, July 10
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

​

  • Crews will be conducting rail delivery and crane unloading operations, requiring a temporary occupation of Southbound Lane 1 north of Dundas Street. The southbound left-turn lane will remain open; however, a portion of the lane will be occupied during these activities.

STATUS UPDATE: JUNE 26TH
Hurontario and Dundas intersection fully reopened

  • The Dundas and Hurontario intersection has been fully reopened as of June 26th.

  • North and South lanes on Hurontario are open. Dundas Street remains closed.

URGENT: Upcoming Road Closures at Dundas & Hurontario Intersection
 

  • Please be advised Metrolinx just released information regarding upcoming road closures at the Dundas and Hurontario intersection to facilitate track work.

  • Closure Schedule is as follows:

    • FULL Intersection Closure: June 11–15

    • PARTIAL Closure: June 15–30

Community Update: Dundas St. E. & Hurontario St. (Northeast Corner)

  • Crews are currently working at the northeast corner of Dundas Street East and Hurontario Street to install hydro conduits in support of the Traction Power Substation (TPSS).

  • Work began on March 3rd and is expected to be completed by the end of this week March 6th 2026. Pedestrian signage is in place to help guide foot traffic safely through the area during construction.

Dundas BRT (Bus Rapid Transit)

​Metrolinx, in collaboration with the City of Mississauga, is continuing to advance planning for the Dundas Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

 

  • The proposed Dundas BRT project would bring 48 kilometres of fast, frequent bus rapid transit along Dundas Street from Highway 6 in the City of Hamilton through to the Kipling Transit Hub in the City of Toronto, linking Etobicoke and Mississauga City Centres.

​

  • More than 20 kilometres of the project would operate in bus lanes or in a dedicated right-of-way, separate from other traffic, allowing faster and more reliable transit connections.

​About Hazel McCallion LRT Construction in Cooksville

Metrolinx is naming the Hurontario light rail transit (LRT) project as the Hazel McCallion Line, to remember the former Mississauga mayor this newly built LRT project will help by:

​

  • The 18km LRT will bring an easy and reliable method of transportation in the area

  • New transit system will have 19 stops and connecting with important transit systems like GO transit,ZUM and Miway for both Mississauga and Brampton

  • Dedicate its own lane ensuring safe and smooth operation for daily riders

​Progress Hazel McCallion LRT Construction in Cooksville

​Ongoing Construction Progress and Community Impact in Cooksville by:
 

  • Crews are installing tracks and guideway segments along Hurontario Street, especially near the future Cooksville LRT stop at John Street

  • Work for constructions begins at 7am-7pm Monday to Saturday,may requiring lanes or sidewalks

  • 400 meters of Mary Fix Creek has been widened and higher better protection against floods​

  • No Official opening date, an announcement will be made once construction is complete

How This Will Affect New Residents and Businesses

  • The Hazel McCallion Line will ensure it will operate with clean electrically powered light rail vehicles therefore producing zero emissions

  • ​More sustainable and reliable to travel and gets cars off the road ​
