On Thursday, October 15, 2026, the Cooksville Business Improvement Area (BIA) hosted a Ward 7 Candidate Forum at Huron Park Recreation Centre, bringing together municipal election candidates, local business owners, residents, and community members for an evening of meaningful dialogue about the future of Cooksville. The forum provided an opportunity for community members to hear directly from candidates running to represent Ward 7 on Mississauga City Council, learn about their priorities, and engage in discussions on issues affecting the local business community and neighbourhood.

Putting Cooksville's Priorities at the Forefront

As one of Mississauga's most culturally diverse and evolving neighbourhoods, Cooksville faces unique opportunities and challenges. With ongoing development, major infrastructure investments, and a vibrant small business community, municipal leadership plays an important role in shaping the neighbourhood's future.

Throughout the evening, candidates were invited to share their perspectives on five key areas:

  • Vision for Ward 7: Their priorities for Cooksville and the broader Ward 7 community.

  • Supporting Small Businesses: Strategies to strengthen the local economy and support independent businesses.

  • Hurontario LRT Impacts: Addressing the challenges and opportunities associated with major transit infrastructure and construction.

  • Safety and Security: Improving public safety and creating a welcoming environment for businesses, residents, and visitors.

  • Growth and Development: Balancing neighbourhood revitalization with the needs of existing businesses and residents.

The moderated discussion was followed by an open question-and-answer session, allowing attendees and the BIA membership to raise concerns and engage directly with candidates.

Encouraging Civic Engagement

The Cooksville BIA recognizes that municipal decisions have a direct impact on the everyday experiences of local businesses and residents, from infrastructure and transportation to public spaces, economic development, and community safety.

By hosting the Candidate Forum, the BIA aimed to create an accessible, non-partisan platform for constructive dialogue and informed civic participation.

The event reinforced the importance of ensuring that Cooksville's diverse voices are heard in conversations about the neighbourhood's future.
